Students from 5 to 8 years

The MagiKats programme for children up to approximately 8 years old covers English tuition topics that support early years education, building their foundation English skills and giving them help with reading. Although most children will be in primary school at this age, they may lack the study skills and confidence needed to make the best of this time, Through being supported by MagiKats, we can help them develop fine and gross motor skills, improve their concentration ability and study approaches, as well as grasp basic literacy skills needed for KS1.

Students aged approximately 8-10 years

For established primary school students our English tutoring includes improving literacy skills such as English grammar, spelling knowledge and providing help with reading. This benefits the children as they gain the focus and confidence required to undertake their KS2 subject areas.

Topics include: rhythm; phonics & spelling; high frequency word recognition & vocabulary development; constructing sentences; synonyms & antonyms; consequences; reading & writing comprehension of both fiction & non-fiction texts.

Students aged approximately 10-12

At this stage children continue to study literacy topics that support the KS2 primary curriculum, but also help with their transition to secondary school. They benefit from gaining belief in themselves as they improve their skills and increase their knowledge and so feel more prepared for any exams they might sit, such as common entrance or SATs. Additionally as children move from primary to secondary education, the skills needed to succeed at school change and so our English tuition programme also reflects these in the topics covered.

Topics include: word development; different types of punctuation & their uses; vocabulary devices; dialogue; biography; discussion & persuasive writing; reading & writing comprehension of both fiction & non-fiction texts.

Students aged approximately 12-14

MagiKats tuition for students at the start of secondary school education and KS3, provides support across a variety of English topics to help with grammar, encourage creative writing and fine tune literacy skills. We aim to make the change in learning style from primary to secondary education a lot smoother so that students can apply what they’ve already learnt, focus on their work and have the confidence to tackle new challenges.

Topics include: vocabulary development & correct usage; presentation & construction of sentences; vocabulary devices; reading & writing comprehension of both fiction & non-fiction texts; rhymes; synopsis.

Students aged above 14

The last few years of secondary school are vitally important and so the MagiKats programme for teenage students is designed to keep them highly motivated whilst giving them the skills and self belief to fulfil their potential. Our English tutoring compliments all KS4 topics and helps to consolidate the literacy skills needed to take them through to GCSEs or their formal exams. We aim to equip our students with life skills that will take them through their last years of secondary school, further and higher education and into the working world.
