Students from 5 to approximately 8 years old The MagiKats programme for children up to approximately 8 years old covers maths tuition topics that support early years education, building their foundation numeracy skills. Although most children will be in primary school at this age, they may lack the study skills and confidence needed to make the most of this time, so we help them develop fine and gross motor skills, improve their concentration ability and study approaches as well as grasp the basic numeracy skills needed for KS1. |

Students aged approximately 8-10 years For established primary school students our maths tutoring not only supports them in developing their numeracy skills but also helps to give them the focus and self belief required to tackle their KS2 subject areas confidently. Topics include: building concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; developing number awareness; odd & even numbers; rounding & estimating; halves & quarters; working with money; length, mass & capacity; reading a clock; following directions using right angles & turns; lists, pictograms & graphs; problem solving. |
|
Students aged approximately 10-12 At this stage children continue to study numeracy topics that not only support the KS2 primary curriculum but also help with their transition to secondary school. They benefit from gaining stronger self belief as they improve their maths skills, and so feel more prepared for any exam they might sit, such as common entrance or SATs. Additionally as children move from primary to secondary education, the skills needed to succeed at school change and so this is also reflected in our maths tuition programme. Topics include: understanding large numbers & place value; developing number skills; ordering, comparing, estimating & rounding; fractions of numbers; working with decimals & fractions; application of addition & subtraction skills; shopping; writing time; measuring; area & perimeter; ratio & proportion; symmetry & reflections; drawing nets & shapes; handling data. |
|
Students aged approximately 12-14 MagiKats tuition for students at the start of secondary school education and KS3 provides support across a variety of mathematics topics to help consolidate and improve their numeracy skills and learning. We aim to make the change in learning style from primary to secondary education as smooth as possible so that students can apply what they’ve already learnt, focus on their work and have the confidence to tackle new challenges Topics include: sequences; divisibility rules; ratio, proportion & percentages; working with negative numbers, prime numbers & factors; 24hr clock & timetables; continued development of working with shapes; drawing angles; solving problems using data; mean, median & mode; problem solving. |

Students aged above 14 The last few years of secondary school are vitally important and so the MagiKats programme for teenage students is designed to keep them highly motivated whilst helping them to gain the skills and self belief to fulfil their potential. MagiKats maths tutoring compliments all KS4 topics and helps to consolidate the numeracy skills needed to take students through to GCSEs or their formal exams. We aim to equip our students with life skills that will take them through their last years of secondary school, further and higher education and into the working world. |
