I've never
considered running my own business, is it hard?

A MagiKats
Franchise is one of the simplest forms of business to operate. Every
MagiKats Franchisee registers as a sole trader, which requires only the most simple
of accounting procedures. Tutors are employees; however making returns is now all done online and, as they
only work limited hours, is also very simple. You do not, for example, need to
offer a pension scheme. We offer all the advice and support that we can to help
you understand how everything works - we have all been there! However, we do
recommend that you take independent advice from a solicitor and accountant
before committing to a new venture.

I'm not a
qualified teacher, does that matter?
|
|
You do not
have to be a qualified teacher to run a MagiKats centre. Your skills level in
Maths and English should be at the equivalent of A Level standard. It is a very
unusual person who is capable and comfortable teaching across all the levels
offered at MagiKats (pre-school to post GCSE), so you will probably want to find
tutors to work with you. You
should consider how you will find tutors to work for you who are capable of
teaching the appropriate materials . It is normal for an established centre to
have a different tutor for different age groups. The MagiKats Principal
(Franchisee) will not necessarily teach. All staff MUST be CRB checked,
including yourself as Franchisee.

What will I
get from MagiKats Ltd?
|
|
You will get
all the training and support that you need to start up and run a successful
Tuition Centre. We will provide you with the software system that contains all
the MagiKats Program and Worksheets. We will give you encouragement and advice
every step of the way, in a practical and ethical way. After all, the reputation
of MagiKats Ltd is based on the reputation of its Franchisees - and that could
be you!

How flexible
is the structure of the Tuition Centre? I'm not sure a large centre would work
in my area.
|
|
Tuition
Centres can be structured to work both within the local community and also to
suit the individual operating them. In some areas this will lead to large
numbers of students concentrated around one location. However, the small group
approach means that it can work equally as successfully by operating small
workshops in many different locations. Most MagiKats Franchisees hire space in
libraries, community centres etc. and this works well for them. A couple of
Franchisees have leased or purchased permanent premises. We will also consider
any suggestions for a new approach, if it proves sensible for a particular area.
There are even rumours that someone is looking into buying a bus, and taking
MagiKats to their students!

How much
does a MagiKats Franchise cost, and how much could I earn?
|
|
The costs
involved in setting up a MagiKats franchise vary, depending on the decisions
that you make around how to structure your business. All MagiKats Franchisees
are sole traders, but some may decide to manage and employ staff, others may
decide to do most of the teaching themselves. It should be possible to work part
time and earn an income of around £16,000 per annum. For someone who wants to
operate MagiKats on a full time basis, the sky's the limit! We do not require
MagiKats Franchisees to give up other forms of work immediately, provided they
are putting in the effort to grow and maintain their centre. We recommend that
most Franchisees should be prepared to give up other work as their centre grows.

Can my kids
do MagiKats too?
|
|
Of course!
However, you should not anticipate your own children being at every workshop; they
will quickly become bored and disruptive.

What about
the competition?
|
|
MagiKats is
fairly new into the market, and it is fair to say that there are competitors out
there who have been established longer. However, longer is not necessarily
better, and the MagiKats approach is unique. We consider ourselves to be a
cheaper alternative to a private tutor, not in competition with the other after
school schemes. As a MagiKats Franchisee, you have the opportunity to be the
trail blazer in your area and, if you want to really go for it, you can take
more than one territory (once established) and build your MagiKats business into
a valuable asset!

|
Will you
open up another MagiKats centre in competition to mine?
|
|
NO! It is in
no-one's interest to develop in-fighting. Your MagiKats territory is one postal
district (e.g. NW1) and this is guaranteed indefinitely (subject to some
conditions). Before opening another MagiKats centre in an adjacent postal
district, we will always consult with you as the existing Franchisee for the
area (and listen to what you have to say).
